Types of Bathroom Lighting
There are three main types of bathroom lighting. They are task lighting, ambient lighting
and accent lighting. Each type of bathroom lighting has its own specific duty and serves its
own purpose. The key to good bathroom lighting is understanding and using these three types of
lighting to create a safe and well lit environment. Bathroom lighting is often neglected,
but it shouldn’t be because the bathroom is one room in the house that everyone uses everyday,
numerous tines a day. Good lighting is essential to keeping things safe in the bathroom. A
bathroom lighting fixture does not have to be fancy to serve its purpose, so there is no need
to spend a fortune on creating good bathroom light. By using a combination of the three types
of bathroom lighting a person can accomplish the goal of great contemporary bathroom lighting.
Task lighting is the lighting that is used to accomplish many of the main tasks that occur in
the bathroom. It is the hard, clear light that people use to see to brush their teeth, shave
and put on make up, among other things. This is the main lighting. Most often it is
accomplished through a bathroom vanity light. A bathroom vanity light with a dimmer switch can
actually create all three types of bathroom lighting. Ambient lighting is light that fills
in where the task lighting doesn’t reach or does not completely light an area. In some cases
ambient lighting is the lighting in the shower or over the bath tub or toilet. For example,
when the shower curtain or doors are closed the task lighting can be blocked, thus resulting
in a need for ambient lighting. This lighting can be softer than the task lighting or just as
bright, depending on how much task lighting actually reaches the area. The idea of ambient
lighting is just to brighten up an area that may be further away from the main lighting
source. Accent lighting is used basically to highlight areas or specific items in the
bathroom. Most accent lighting is not designed to actually be functional, but more to show off
art work, special tile or other things that the owner wishes to draw attention to. Accent
lighting is mostly cosmetic and is not absolutely necessary but can add a sense of style to a
bathroom. The three types of lighting, task, ambient and accent, are all used in combination
to create a bathroom that is well lit. The bathroom is a place of many safety hazards and
having good bathroom lighting is a way to prevent accidents. By using all three types of
lighting together a person can create a bathroom environment that is inviting, looks good and
offer security and safety. |
